The Studio

Making a record by yourself, in the order you actually do it. Each step has the tools you use here, the files you take home, and the posts that explain them.

You have ideas and a guitar, and nothing recorded yet.

Full Band Routing Template

My standard setup. Every song on the album starts from this project.

Thirty-seven tracks of summing stacks, aux buses, and a full-mix bus, wired so you can solo any instrument group with one option-click and A/B against reference tracks without a third-party plugin. Stock Logic plugins only.

What's inside
  • Acoustic (mic + pickup), verse, chorus, and accent guitar stacks, each guitar as a DI and a wet track, all into an All Guitars bus
  • Bass (DI + wet) and drums into a Rhythm Section bus
  • Extra Instruments folder stack for banjo, synth pad, and anything else
  • Lead vocal (verse, chorus, bridge), lead harmonies, and backing vocal stacks into an All Vox bus
  • Music bus and All Vox feed a Full Mix bus; three reference tracks go straight to the stereo out
  • Inputs pre-mapped for a four-input interface: 1 and 2 modeller dry/wet, 3 microphone, 4 guitar DI
Version 1.0 · 369 KB · Updated November 3, 2025

Singer-Songwriter Template

Acoustic guitar and a vocal. The same routing idea, cut down to what you need.

A lighter version of the full band template for one guitar and one voice: acoustic mic and pickup, lead vocal, harmonies, a scratch track, and a reference track, with stock plugin starting points already on each channel.

What's inside
  • Acoustic guitar stack (mic + pickup) with Channel EQ and Compressor starting points
  • Lead vocal and harmony stacks into an All Vox bus with DeEsser and compression ready to go
  • Shared vocal plate and slap delay aux sends
  • Music and Full Mix buses plus one reference track for A/B listening
  • Inputs pre-mapped: 1 microphone, 2 guitar pickup
Not uploaded yet. It will appear here as soon as the file is ready.

It is recorded, and it does not sound like a record yet.

The Lab

Experiments, builds, and things that might not work.

AI-built plugins, pedal builds, and anything that does not fit a phase yet.

From the Lab

  • I Built an LA-2A Plugin with AI (Twice)

With Claude doing the coding, I built two working LA-2A-style compressor plugins for Logic with one prompt. Claude took 8 minutes to create and register the plugin. I then compared it to Softube's Opto, and UAD's LA/2A

How to install a Logic template

  1. Unzip the download and open the .logicx file in Logic Pro.
  2. Choose File → Save as Template, give it a name, and it shows up under My Templates every time you start a new project.
  3. Open the mixer and set the inputs to match your interface. Everything else is already routed.
